  • A printed reproduction of an oil painting of Dick Dowling, an Irishman from Houston and Confederate Army war hero, in uniform with descriptive caption. At the time of his death from yellow fever in 1867, the "Houston Telegraph" considered him "Houston's most important citizen." Among his accomplishments he was a sound businessman, member of Houston's first fire department, bought and sold real estate, and helped found the first oil company in Houston.
