This original "gray tape" by DJ Screw was made to commemorate the birthdays of Screwed Up Click members and brothers Lil' Randy and Ron'O. The music on the tape was chosen by Lil' Randy and DJ Screw and mixed by the latter in his signature "chopped and screwed" style. This original mix was then dubbed onto blank tapes by DJ Screw and sold directly to fans from his home.

Lyrics by DJ Screw for his verse on the song "Screwed Up Click" by C-Note
DJ Screw
eng
Although primarily a DJ, Screw also rapped on both screw tapes and albums. In this small notepad, he worked out the lyrics for his verse on the song "Screwed Up Click," which appeared on the album "Third Coast Born" by C-Note. His lyrics refer directly to things going on at his house - the 1996 raid by Houston's Gang Task Force who mistakenly thought that the traffic to his home was for drugs, the "shady" behavior of some hangers-on as he became increasingly famous, and the effect of regularly sipping codeine promethazine or "drank."

Obituary (memorial service program) for Big Moe
2007-10-20
eng
Big Moe, born Kenneth Dionell Moore, was known for "rap-singing" on DJ Screw mixtapes and on solo albums. His rich voice added R&B style to "June 27th", DJ Screw's best-selling tape, and to the classic albums "City of Syrup" and "Purple World." The titles of both albums referenced "syrup", codeine promethazine mixed with a soft drink. Big Moe died of a heart attack on October 14, 2007.

Obituary (memorial service program) for DJ Screw
2000-11
eng
DJ Screw, or Robert Earl Davis, Jr., made his mark on the world by creating a new production technique called "chopped and screwed," which was distributed on popular mixtapes that also featured local rappers freestyling. He released hundreds of mixtapes, recorded four albums, opened a store that sold only DJ Screw tapes, and gave dozens of Houston rappers their starts. On November 16, 2000, DJ Screw was found dead in his recording studio at the age of twenty-nine.

"June 27th" was DJ Screw's most famous mixtape, created in 1996 for his friend Big DeMo's birthday and featuring a 40 minute long freestyle, or improvised rap, by multiple people. Screw tapes were often commissioned to celebrate birthdays and other significant life events. Partial song list for a screw tape
DJ Screw
1999
eng
DJ Screw kept small notepads in which he jotted down phone numbers and other things. This page shows what looks like a partial list of songs for a screw tape. The songs are by Fat Pat and the group Dead End Alliance (original members DJ Screw, Fat Pat, H.A.W.K., and Kay-K), suggesting that it was created for someone from the Dead End, the South Side Houston neighborhood that the group's members came from.

Screw tape list for Lil Keke
Lil' Keke
1999?
eng
This list for a personalized mixtape "chopped and screwed" by DJ Screw was presumably created for famed rapper and Screwed Up Click member Lil' Keke. Songs by local artists Lil' Troy, Big Pokey, Fat Pat, and Botany Boyz would have been slowed down and "chopped" (emphasized through manual repetition by the DJ) for the resulting tape. Lil' Keke's screw tape list was written on the back of a flyer for a sales job at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. On some pages, phone numbers have been digitally altered to protect owners' privacy.
